Starfish and Coffee

Starfish and Coffee

It's the title of one of my favorite Prince songs.

I miss Prince.

A lot.

The chorus of Starfish and Coffee goes like this:

Starfish and coffee
Maple syrup and jam
Butterscotch clouds, a tangerine
And a side order of ham
If you set your mind free, baby
Maybe you'd understand
Starfish and coffee
Maple syrup and jam

The whole song (with some special help) is here.

Let's set our minds free about coffee

The World Health Organization (WHO)’s International Agency for Research on Cancer assembled a team of 23 international scientists who reviewed more than 1,000 studies about coffee.

InJune 2016 Lancet Oncology, The WHO said the evidence showed that drinking coffee was unlikely to cause several types of cancer.

These types of cancer included breast, prostate and pancreatic cancers.

Coffee was associated with a lower risk of uterine and liver cancers.

Drinking coffee improves driving ability.  I thought about starting DADD (Doctors Against Drowsy Driving) after interviewing Arianna Huffington about the science of sleep.  She loved it!

More coffee research shows a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, stroke, heart arrhythmia, hypertension, heart disease and depression.

Coffee appears to decrease liver damage secondary to alcohol, obesity and diabetes.

You've got to weigh the benefits for yourself.  Potential risks including stomach upset, reflux, insomnia (don't drink caffeine after 2 pm), tremors and increased heart rate.

Researchers from the University of Texas determined that the coffee “optimal drinking temperature” was “approximately 136 degrees.”  Don't go too hot.

Conclusion: 2-3 cups of coffee per day is pretty good for you.

Starfish and Coffee, the data says ok.

So grab a mug, fill it up, and drink it every day.

Have it pretty early, please no later than two.

You gotta get eight hours, Arianna's telling you.

Oh, yeah!
